Fractional CTOas a Service

Senior technology leadership for hotels, by the day rather than by the salary.

Peter Lowe, Managing Director of TIO IT

Most operators have a GM, a financial controller and a maintenance manager, and nobody whose job is the technology. So renewals get signed without review, brand standards arrive as a surprise, and capital projects are costed from a supplier quote rather than a plan. A fractional CTO, also called a virtual IT director, fills that seat for one or two days a month.

What is included

  • An estate review across every property: hardware, licensing, contracts, connectivity and risk
  • A three-year roadmap with costs, so IT goes into the capital plan rather than the emergency budget
  • Supplier and contract review, including PMS, connectivity and telephony renewals
  • Project oversight through specification, tender, installation and acceptance
  • IT due diligence on acquisitions and on properties coming under management
  • Reporting to owners, asset managers and boards in terms they can act on

Who it is for

Hotel groups, management companies and multi-site operators carrying technology decisions without a technology person. The work is led by Peter Lowe, TIO IT's Managing Director, who has spent over 15 years running hospitality IT.

Questions we get asked

How much time does this take?

Typically one or two days a month against an agreed plan, with more during a project, a refurbishment or an acquisition.

Do you sell what you recommend?

Where it helps, and the margin is visible. If another supplier is the better answer for a property, that is what the report says.

Is this the same as a virtual IT director?

Yes. Fractional CTO, virtual IT director and CTO as a service describe the same engagement: senior technology leadership bought by the day instead of by the salary.

Start with the Wi-Fi

A guest Wi-Fi audit is the quickest way to see how we work: we survey the property, test what guests actually experience, and report on what needs doing and what it costs. The findings are yours whether or not you go ahead.
